➽ Hier stehen zu beiden Seiten der Brücke über den Stadtbach Überreste des "Unteren Brunnenwerks", einer technischen Rarität, die zwischen dem 16. Jahrhundert und dem Jahr 1879 betrieben wurde. Im Süden der Brücke verläuft eine gusseiserne Rinne (Zirbelnuss-Kanalbrücke) von 1848 (PiP) , die das Wasser des Inneren Stadtgrabens über den Stadtbach leitet. Aufgabe dieser Rinne war es, verschmutztes Gewerbeabwasser vom Wasser zu trennen, das man als städtisches Trinkwasser nutzte. Nordwestlich der Stadtbach-Brücke stehen sowohl der Untere Brunnenturm sowie eine ehemalige Pumpstation. Der Untere Brunnenturm war in einem früheren Wehrturm als Wasserspeicher eingerichtet worden. Von ihm aus wurde früher das Leitungssystem der nördlichen Augsburger Altstadt mit Trinkwasser versorgt. Dazu nutzte man hier das Gefälle des Stadtbachs, dessen Wasser man in den Turm pumpte. Heute ist hier das Liliom untergebracht, ein Programmkino mit Kneipe und Café. Es geht um Denkmäler, wie die Wasserwerke und -türme, sowie die kilometerlangen Lechkanäle. Object of this canel was to separate contaminated industrial wastewater from the water that used as a municipal drinking water. Northwest of the town creek bridge there are both the lower fountain tower and the former pumping station. The lower wells tower was established in an earlier defense tower for water storage. From there the pipe system has supplied the northern part of Augsburg with drinking water. For that was used the slope of the town creek whose water was pumped into the tower. It's about monuments such as the waterworks and towers as well as the miles of Lech canels. ➽ Hinter dem Rathaus steht am Elias-Holl-Platz die Klosterkirche Maria Stern mit angeschlossenem Kloster der Franziskanerinnen. Gebaut 1576 von Johannes Holl, Vater des Stadtbaumeisters Elias Holl. Über der Anlage erhebt sich ein bemerkenswertes achteckiges Türmchen mit einer Zwiebelhaube, die auch "Augsburger Haube" genannt wird und, besonders natürlich in Schwaben und Bayern, oft nachgebaut wurde. Das war die erste Zwiebelhaube im süddeutschen Raum. Das Kloster Maria Stern ist das Mutterhaus der Franziskanerinnen von Maria Stern, auch Sternschwestern oder Schwestern von Maria Stern genannt. Von hier aus wird der weltweite Orden gelenkt. In Deutschland gibt es noch etwas über 200 Sternschwestern, etwa 90 Schwestern wirken in Brasilien und Afrika. Auch dieser Orden leidet, wie viele andere, unter Nachwuchssorgen. Das Fürstenhaus Thurn und Taxis erwarb 1810, mit der Ablösung der Postrechte, das Gelände des aus dem 8. Jahrhundert stammenden Kloster Sankt Emmeram mitsamt den Gebäuden und ließ es ab 1812 durch Jean Baptiste Métivier zum Residenzschloss ausbauen. ➽ Der Sheridan Park ist ein neuer Stadtteil im Westen von Augsburg, der auf dem Gelände der ehemaligen amerikanischen Sheridan-Kaserne liegt. Das Motto des Sheridan-Parks ist "Wohnen, Arbeiten, Wohlfühlen". ➽ Noch vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg war das Gelände der Sheridan Kaserne landwirtschaftlich genutzt. Zur Zeit der Weimarer Republik plante man hier das Zentralkrankenhaus von Augsburg zu bauen. Diesen Plänen stand aber die nationalsozialistische Aufrüstungspolitik im Weg. Das Gelände wurde für den Bau von Kasernen verwendet. Von 1945 bis 1998 wurde die Kaserne von der U.S. Armee genutzt. ______________ ➽ Sheridan Park is a new city district in the west of Augsburg, which is on the site of the former American Sheridan barracks. The motto of the Sheridan Park is "living, working, feeling good". ➽ Even before the Second World War the area of Sheridan barracks was used for agriculture. During the Weimar Republic the Central Hospital of Augsburg was planed on this area. These plans however were a hindrance to the Nazi rearmament policy. The site was used for the construction of barracks. From 1945 to 1998, the U.S. Army used the site of the Wehrmacht barracks.
