Since latest from the Middle Ages Augsburg was considered as the center of German gold and silversmithing. In many forges in the winding streets of the old town at that time arised inter alia the world-famous "Augsburg silverware", which was considered at all European courts as a sign of wealth and taste. ➽ Die Alte Silberschmiede im Lechviertel von Augsburg ist ein Handwerkerhaus aus dem 13. Jahrhundert.

Spätestens ab dem Mittelalter galt Augsburg als Zentrum der deutschen Gold- und Silberschmiedekunst. In zahlreichen Schmieden in den verwinkelten Gassen der Altstadt entstand damals unter anderen das weltbekannte „Augsburger Tafelsilber”, dessen Besitz an allen europäischen Fürstenhöfen als Zeichen für Reichtum und Geschmack galt. Von den heute noch erhaltenen Handwerkshäusern dürfte die "Alte Silberschmiede" in der Pfladergasse das bekannteste sein. Bereits um 1250 entstanden, hat sie ihr heutiges Erscheinungsbild in der Zeit um 1550 erhalten. Bis ins späte 19. Jahrhundert wurde das Gebäude als Schmiede genutzt und noch heute beherbergt es eine Goldschmiedewerkstatt und Boutique für Gold-, Silber und Platinschmuck. Quelle: Wikipedia
