Pen-ffordd-goch Pond

Pen-ffordd-goch Pond
We are on our way to the summit of The Blorenge here, and this pond is a starting point for many of the footpaths. We take a stroll around it.
Formerly Forge or Keeper's Pond, it was constructed as a reservoir storing water to power Garnddyrys Forge which was established in 1816-17 and had ceased operation in 1861.
Just past the edge of the water is a bench lined path and just beyond that, a very steep big valley to the village of Govilon and the canal below. To my left here we can still see remains of the many years of coal mining in this area with these slag heaps. See Pips

Best full screen.

A landscape with an interesting past Herb..............but good to hear is has been looked after for recreational use instead of it's former industrial use.

It looks a bit gloomy in this image, but the view is lovely and you've captured it beautifully. I like the PiP with the goose and reed beds but I'm not overly keen on the slag heaps :-)

Aye Keith, maybe another where I should have chosen the alternative to be the main picture here. Nevertheless, always good to read your thoughts on my captures. The whole scene was cold but I thought the slight colours in the sky added to the mystery here. The slag heaps -well they were there and not to be ignored as we were not very far from that awful disaster village of Aberfan.

Cheers. Herb

Thanks for this Toz. I guess, like me, you liked the mood in this one. Yes, its good to be out on the hills. I seem to get less and less of that nowadays.

Have a gud un. Herb
