On top of Pendle Hill

On top of Pendle Hill
A view of a quickly disappearing trig point (triangulation pillar) on top of Pendle Hill. A hearty up-hill hike to get here but worth it in the end. The sky at this time had turned to a rather hazy blue heralding the coming evening and some mist. We had only seen two couples all the way up to here but suddenly all the world and his dog joined us.
At an elevation of 557m it is described as an untamed place, full of mystery and infamous as the home of the Pendle Witches who were tried and executed for witchcraft in 1612.
See last photo (and small Pip) for bigger view from here.

I quite like Trig Points as they're nearly always situated with a good view, and this one is no exception. I've never seen one with this sort of surroundings though Herb. That huge circular patch of cobblestones looks fantastic.

Hi Keith. I don't think I have seen the same anywhere else either. Maybe the ground was being worn away by visitors as I am sure it was not like this on our last hike up here many years back now. A great view as you say and I am heartened that you too, liked this scene.

I feel sure if sticking it on top of the hill was suggested now there would be an uproar about defacing the countryside, I've seen it but never been up there

You are probably right but now, if it was a wind-turbine - no problems getting planning permission to place it up on't top here.

Cheers for the call. Herb

a beautiful and also sad location! it is terrible so many women were executed in the past because they are believed to be evil :-(((

I love the atmosphere created in this super shot Herb. It looks like you're on top of the world....which you almost are from the look of the superb overview!

Beautiful view from this Trig Point.
I like the "paving" around it ...

Herb Riddle club has replied to StoneRoad2013 club
Yes, a very popular and well visited trig point here. The paving must have been put here to prevent erosion from all the visitors.
