Erris Head Loop walk stile

Walking along this exciting coast can have its moments. Here we have a most extraordinary stile that we have just climbed over. The fences are like so many we have seen in the Republic of Ireland, extensive and dangerous. However the stile did suffice but I doubt anybody with any physical restrictions would have managed it.

That's an impressive looking style Herb...........but I can't help thinking it would have been cheaper just to put a wooden one or even a gate there! The fence itself looks pretty ricketty!

There's a super view past the fence though, which I like very much.

Well it does more than the job Keith. Very solid and it got both of us over that barbed fence quite nicely. Yes the general state of barbed fences were somewhat rickety making them more difficult to climb over :)

Yes wood is the natural material for these but... Maybe they had a few surplus and decided to use them.

There are some large stiles over walls in the Peak District but this does look extremely high. I bet there many people unhappy about using it and some who probably turn back. Very interesting

Nice to see you here Colin. Yes, I know the Peak District have some great stiles, some of which we have tried. Coming across this was quite daunting as we too thought of members of our family who could not have climbed it. Better a small gate, by far.

As you say, no good at all for people wielding such a stick. It did the job for us though Steve. I think there was another one at least but no other photo. The fences around here were a bit rough and ready in parts.
