Geese and fences

Along the banks of the Rochdale canal are a few fields. These are surrounded by fences and we see some splendid examples here. The banks of the canal with its adjoining fields are also full of Canadian Geese which at this time of year are almost all paired up in readiness for breeding. As can be seen, frost is still with us at the moment.

Good that you liked this Rosa. Yes, the numbers of these are gone up remarkably over the last few years. I know now that they are being considered a nuisance in some places. I do like to see them though.

Yes, I have a preference for wild open hills and countryside but man must live Judite. We make the most of these fences, especially in our HFF group. Glad you enjoyed them.

The anti-goose fences are a good idea in theory Herb...........but I don't think they'll be much good in keeping the geese in..........or out :-)) Neverthess they've provided a lovely composition and some superb shadows.

Excellent composition (especially the double arcs). The horse fence reminded mo the colonies of Canada geese at two of the racetracks (one now gone) in Toronto. They'd decide to cross the track and tickets would end up being refunded, especially in harness races when they prevented horses from getting a fair start.

Good to see you again John. I can quite imagine how they might stop a horse race -indeed maybe a bike or car race too. They are being a nuisance in our main park as they try to stop people passing on the nearby main track. Loud hisses and a peck to a child is not too good. Still, I do like to see them in the countryside. -They must have had enough of Canada.
