Dunottar Castle

Dunottar Castle
A rather dramatic view of this splendid castle upon almost an Island just south of Aberdeen, Scotland. It was possible to visit inside too but I had to resist that temptation.

Dunnottar Castle is a ruined medieval fortress located upon a rocky headland on the northeastern coast of Scotland, about 2 miles south of Stonehaven. The surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, but the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages.

Nice to see you again Peter. I now have the good-weather version on here too (see PiP) and that is rather nice too but like you, I prefer this atmospheric version. As you say, it so suits the ideas that we have of Scottish castles.

Cheers, Herb

Hi Colin, good to see you here. I still don't think I have traveled as extensively as you in Scotland and have certainly not got to your lovely Munro peaks. However, as you say, I have been to quite a few places now and this NE Scotland was one of the places missing for us. To come yet, is our second week near Braemar with your more traditional Scottish landscapes. Anyway, great that you approve of my treatment here and maybe you will take a peek at the other version too (follow PiP). If you have not been here - I can recommend a visit.

Best Wishes, Herb

Thanks Toz, always nice to hear from you on my returns to here. Lots of snaps done on my Scottish trip and so that will last weeks yet. Always good when you approve of my images -I know you might have done the same with this. Cheers for the YS.

I have seen little of the East Coast and Dundee to Peterhead is unknown to me but I have been to Braemar and Royal Deeside a few times. Much more often my visits have been all points left at the top of Loch Lomond. Your PiP is certainly more like my kind of shot :-)
