La Vecchia Pescheria di Comacchio si affaccia sull'omonimo canale a pochi metri dal famoso ponte seicentesco Trepponti ed è sede tutt'ora del mercato ittico cittadino.
All'interno dell'edificio, lastricato in pietra, disposti su due file vi sono quattordici banchi per l'esposizione del pescato. Tra la terza e la quarta finestra nel lato Nord una piccola nicchia conserva un'immagine votiva, a sottolineare l'antico legame tra il mestiere della pesca e fede religiosa. Le barche cariche di pesce attraccavano e scaricavano la merce davanti alla pescheria arrivando direttamente dal mare poiché era possibile risalire il canale Pallotta dalle lagune costiere fino a Comacchio,
entrare in città tramite il fortificato Trepponti e scendere davanti alla pescheria, garantendo la freschezza del cibo.
La costruzione della Pescheria di Comacchio si collega direttamente al grande rinnovamento architettonico che la città conobbe con il definitivo passaggio allo Stato della Chiesa nel 1598, dopo secoli di dominio estense. Il potenziamento della rete di canali navigabili migliorò ulteriormente la principale risorsa di Comacchio, ossia la pesca delle anguille.

The Vecchia Pescheria di Comacchio (Old Fish Market) overlooks the canal of the same name, a few metres from the famous seventeenth-century Trepponti bridge, and is still home to the town's fish market.
Inside the building, paved in stone, there are fourteen stalls in two rows for displaying the catch. Between the third and fourth window on the north side, a small niche contains a votive image, underlining the ancient link between the fishing trade and religious faith. Boats laden with fish docked and unloaded their goods in front of the fish market, arriving directly from the sea, since it was possible to sail up the Pallotta canal from the coastal lagoons to Comacchio, enter the town through the fortified Trepponti and disembark in front of the fish market, guaranteeing the freshness of the food.
The construction of the Comacchio fish market is directly linked to the great architectural renewal that the town underwent with the definitive passage to the Papal States in 1598, after centuries of Este rule. The strengthening of the network of navigable canals further improved Comacchio's main resource, eel fishing.
