My first Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)

My first Pileated Woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus)
I have never seen a pileated woodpecker in nature. But today I was surprised to see one only 50 ft away from the path where I was walking in the nature center.

Excellent catch. There are some living near here, but they are almost always hiding in the treetops. Usually I just hear them. I haven't gotten a photo in a long time.

Thank you, Ron.

This part of the nature center, as you have seen, has some densely wooded areas with mature trees and even though I have heard them often, I had never been able to catch a glimpse of one.
