Jenny update and the rain has stopped
- 05 Jan 2016 - 3 commentsI had a brief chat with Jenny yesterday. Her doctoer has visited her and arranged some help in the personal dept and they are looking into more long term help. We only chat for a short time because she tires very easily. On the home front what must be the longest wet spell on record has finally relented. We still haven't seen the sun but with very little wind and no sound of rain on the windows I feel like I am in a wonderland. This bug I am carrying around also seems to be ready to move on and…

Her Doctor is caling on Monday to sort things out,shw will need some sort of help with showering etc and with her medical history they will need nursing experience. Happy New Year
- 01 Jan 2016 - 2 commentsI wish you all a Happy New Year and hope you have a good one. This year has been another mixed bag of course. It has started on a good note, for the first time in a long time I awoke to silence,no wind howling and no rain lashing the window. After almost a month of terrible weather in this part of the country with some folk being flooded out 3 times in a few weeks.Maybe this year will be kinder to us. The good news to start the year is that Jenny is on the mend,it will be slow progress but s…

A change in the weather
- 14 Dec 2015 - 4 commentsI awoke yesterday to a change in the weather, the gales and rain had stopped to be replaced by a sharp frosty morning, The cars and houses in the street had a coating of frost-a much calmer day. After breakfast I strolled over the bridge to get some shopping and some fresh air in my lungs. I neede full winter clothing on but it did feel good, Black Come had her white cap on can see in the photo. The break in the weather didn't last, after lunch the rain returned and plenty of it. Unlike the…

the rain continues to fall
- 12 Dec 2015 - 4 commentsAnother wet day here,I can't remember what a blue sky and sunshine looks like. I have a leak somewhere above the back window but the weather is too bad to go searching for the access point. Some places have been flooded twice in five days but we soldier on.Just over a week until Ellen moves out and I ho[e the rain stops by then.

A little catch up
- 09 Dec 2015 - 3 commentsA little time on my hands at the moment so it's catch up at last. I'll be popping round to see what you rabble have been up to. Things are still hectic here between battling lousy weather, torrential rain and winds again today to sorting out for Ellen and Colin to move. On that front Ellen got the key to the flat today and Colin finishes work in 10 days,so then it will be a mad dash to get things sorted

A big storm passes through
- 06 Dec 2015 - 4 commentsIt was strange this morning waking up to silence,It seems an age since this happened,of late a howling wind and lashing rain have been my morning alarm. The town is cut off from the rest of the world at the moment with 5ft of water in on some roads out. The whole of the county from here to the Scottish borders seems to be in a similar position. At last today I can wander off and do a little shopping over on the mainland. The only other news is the planned move by Ellen and Colin is going slowl…

Weather and family news
- 23 Nov 2015 - 4 commentsHello folks things have been a little hectic here of late. Firstly the weather here has been terrible. We had weeks of rain, some times all day and others just at different times. As you can image we have had flooding on the island but got of lightly compared with those farther north. I can't remember a longer rain spell. On Saturday I awoke to patchy blue skies and a big drop in temperatures. Sunday was glorious and I strolled over own on my shopping trip. Today started very cold with patchy cl…

The first storm approaches
- 13 Nov 2015 - 5 commentsWe have a storm moving in with torrential rain forecast in my area from Saturday through Monday. Rain of 150mm to 200mm is possible. What nearly 8'' of rain will do to ground already soaked by 10 days of rain on and off is easy to predict,we are in for some flooding in the low lying areas. Winds of 40 mph will drive the high tide in as well so more trouble there. Welcome to winter.

Fog and family photos
- 02 Nov 2015 - 4 commentsThe fog which has been hanging around for 2 days is finally lifting, yesterday was a real pea souper and very damp and clingy. We may even see a little sun later. Today I was off to see mother and for a surprise I took Gemma,Arron and Mia with me which of course delighted the old girl. We just needed Stephen or Ellen there to complete the 5 generations, but a least we are the prettiest. Excuse the photo quality Arron is no David Bailey

winter preparations coming on apace
- 20 Oct 2015 - 5 commentsPreparations for winter almost complete in the garden now. Yesterday I pruned the rosemary and rose bushes and hacked back the Buddleia. Today I was going to give the grass a trim but heavy overnight rain put paid to that job. With my back complaining I did too much yesterday that is maybe as well. So today I will settle for cleaning the mower and strimmer ready for winter storage. This involves stripping the mower and replacing or cleaning the filters and checking of damage or worn parts, the s…

The bushes last stand
- 13 Oct 2015 - 3 commentsIt was a lovely sunny morning, the perfect weather for finishing off the killing of the gooseberry bushes. I donned my armour and after a careful check for signs of Hedgy started on the remaining two bushes. With a break in between I managed to clear them. I raked up all the debris and then checked around the side of the house for any signs of Hedgy's new abode. I think I have found it,there appears to be a tunnel leading along the big mound of soil to the corner of the house and very faint sig…

A busy day
- 11 Oct 2015 - 3 commentsA busy day today. The morning was pleasant enoughy so needing to go to Wilko's as well as Morrison's and B&M I set off early and strolled over. Rapid service in the first two shops and also in B&M I noticed 50 fat balls for £3:99 which is £1:05 cheaper than morrison's so I picked them up and with the quid saved bought a two litre bag of bird seed,a good deal. Being early I decided to stroll home again. The fat balls weighed 4 kilo's and the back pack only weighted around twice that so I had no…
