  • Dear Ford.

    - 26 Feb 2011
I saw a commercial last night where a person was saying their Ford car makes them a better drive. Why? Because it tells them when someone is in their blindspot, and will automatically slow down a little if they get too close to another car. Does this help reduce the chance that a driver will get in an accident? Maybe, but it doesn't make the drivers any better. In fact, I think it does nothing to correct their bad habits. It allows them to drive lazy since the car will think for them. Ma…

  • Movie Moment: Prince of Persia

    - 15 Feb 2011
I could easily see some fans of the last-gen games ( and I'm one myself ) getting all in a huff about this movie, but as far as game-to-screen transitions go I thought it was good. I think it's all about the expectations you walk in with. I went in thinking it would be an okay adventure flick, and that's what it was. A not-great-but-not-bad, hit-all-the-tick-boxes, adventure movie of rental proportions. It looked well produced and there was an apparent amount of effort put into it. The story…

  • Movie Moment: Tron Legacy

    - 10 Feb 2011
Tron: Legacy did about as well as a sequel to Tron could do, considering much of the magic of the first one was based on the newest and uniqueness of it all.

  • Movie Moment Marathon

    - 25 Jan 2011
Here's some quick thoughts on some movies I've seen in the past month that I never got around to doing full blown Movie Moments on. Death at a Funeral - Boring. What a waste of perfectly good talent. The Box - Based of of Richard Matheson's story "Button, Button", it was slow, too long and Cameron Diaz's accent was horrible. Matheson's stories were often the subject for plots on the original Twilight Zone (best show ever), and the movie would have fared better as a TZ episode tha…

  • Merry Christmas!

    - 22 Dec 2010
I know I'll be pretty busy over the next few days so I thought I'd post my Christmas greetings now!

  • My eyes! It burns!

    - 18 Dec 2010
Went for a drive down "Taffy Lane" which is a street of houses that goes all out when it comes to Christmas decorations. Some of them are actually very pretty... some not only cross the boarder into tacky-ville, they set up colonies.

  • Movie Moment: Kick-Ass

    - 12 Dec 2010
Some movies are able to combine concepts like action, humour, drama, and romance in a seamless fashion. Other movies take these items and create an experience that seems more schizophrenic than cohesive. Enter Kick-Ass. A fun movie that despite generating some cheesy teen-love vibes came out as a solid "alright". I thought it started well, and got into things at a nice pace. The middle however seemed sloppy and disjointed, and loss my interest. I will admit that it did end strong with a gr…

  • Movie Moment: Shutter Island

    - 20 Oct 2010
We watched Shutter Island a couple weekends ago. We were expecting it to be a sort of ghost filled horror movie. We were pleasantly surprised to find out this wasn't the case.

  • Rethink your wording.

So, I was reading through some cards of this kids game. The idea is that there's a set of clues to something and you have to guess what it is based on those clues. There was one line in particular that caught my eye: "Stick your finger in my hole." Let's just pause for a moment and take that in. Wait... maybe that's not that term I want to use. (The answer is "donut" by the way.)

  • Wendy's Anti-Toy

We went to Wendy's and among our order was a kid's meal. This is what came with it.

  • Movie Moment: Double bill

    - 05 Aug 2010
I saw Inception this past week; it's a very good movie. I must admit that I did fall victim to hype however, because it wasn't the mind blowing experience I was preparing myself for. Still, it has a great story, great cast, and was very well made even with a few twist and turns that I could see coming despite my attempts to lose myself in the moment and not think about the next steps (as I tend to enjoy doing in movies). Regardless of that, it's a definite recommendation-to-see from myself. No…

  • Quiznos Rant

    - 20 Jul 2010
I have to start by saying that when it comes to sub-sandwich places, I am a subway guy. That's what I'm used to. So I ventured into a Quiznos, since it was close by one day. I hadn't gone to one in years, and figured I'd give it another shot. What a pain.

  • Movie Moment: Zombie Combo

    - 29 Jun 2010
Zombieland & Shaun of the Dead. Both were on the Movie Network this past weekend. Both very similar in many ways. They are zombie movies that are very entertaining and work to be fun instead of scary. They don't take themselves too seriously, and seem oddly more realistic on some levels than other zombie flicks I've seen (although I honestly haven't seen very many). There's a certain casualness to the situation in both movies, and both have scenes where they play on the "we can trick them by…

  • Mini-rant: Retail Chashier Duties

    - 23 Jun 2010
I've got no problem with the fact that more and more stores are charging for plastic bags; they want you to bring your own reusable bag, and that's fine. But because I bring my bag, does that really mean I have to pack it? Did they cut your salary as well to help with costs? No? Well could you please open the bag I put on your counter before my merchandise and fill it up? If you want me to pack the bag then give me a self serve line without a cashier. It's not like the attitude of most of th…

  • Movie Moment: the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus.

    - 14 Jun 2010
The Imaginarium attempts to provide a modern tale of a classic scenario. A man makes a deal with the devil and wins; but it turns out that winning is not at all as glorious as it was suppose to be. In this case, the man is Dr. Parnassus. He won a bet granting him immortal life. After a few centuries he grew tired of immortality. His eyes caught a view of woman and love at first sight was the result. In a second deal with the Devil he was granted youth and mortality so that he could marry this wo…

  • Movie Moment: Pandorum

    - 05 Jun 2010
Pandorum is a sci-fi horror movie where a man awakens on a space ship with memory loss while other passengers are slowly introduced and he needs to start up the main reactor while avoiding deadly flesh eating monsters while the earth has blown up while trying to colonize a new planet while fighting off a mental condition brought on from such voyages causing paranoia and the space crazies! [inhales]. Phew... busy movie.

  • Movie Moment: Star Trek

    - 30 May 2010
I'm not really what you'd call a Star Trek fan. I've watched episodes of the original series, and I used to regularly watch the Next Generation. I never got into DS9 or Voyager, and I never delved into the extended universe. I thought it pertinent to mention this before getting into the movie, which even though came out a year ago I just got around to watching this past weekend. I enjoyed it a lot! I didn't mind that they screwed with the history; at least they did it in a way that comes righ…
