I could easily see some fans of the last-gen games (and I'm one myself) getting all in a huff about this movie, but as far as game-to-screen transitions go I thought it was good. I think it's all about the expectations you walk in with. I went in thinking it would be an okay adventure flick, and that's what it was. A not-great-but-not-bad, hit-all-the-tick-boxes, adventure movie of rental proportions.
It looked well produced and there was an apparent amount of effort put into it. The story line does stray from the game's however, so expect to see new characters and plot-lines. As far as a comparison to the games go, there were some obvious homages but no direct scene-for-scene match ups. It was nice to see that they were at times trying to be respectful during this obvious cash-in of the franchise's name.
It has decent action and for the most part it keeps moving forward at a good pace. Even stripped of the license it's probably worth a viewing. If you're a fans of the franchise you should get a kick out of it, provided that you wouldn't be offended by the liberties taken with the lore.
