Movie Moment: the Rise of Cobra
- 13 May 2010Every so often, a movie comes along. That about sums up GI Joe: the Rise of Cobra.

Movie Moment: State of Play
- 11 Apr 2010State of Play is a drama/political thriller, I guess you would say. It stars Russel Crowe, Rachel McAdams, and Ben Affleck, with a good supporting cast. Crowe and McAdams play reports that start on 2 different stories that end up converging to a much bigger story with Affleck's congressman character caught in the middle. It was alright. It was a good Friday night movie to sit back and watch with a snack. Interesting enough to keep you watching, although some momentum was lost by the end and I…

Movie Moment: Inglorious Bastards
- 26 Mar 2010It was okay. Yeah, just "okay" for me. Christoph Waltz was wonderful, and deserved the Oscar for best supporting actor; but how many times can Tarantino make the same movie? Seriously, he's using all the same tricks, but his dialogue is becoming more realistic... which is to say mundane. Okay, so I'm coming down a little hard on it; it was alright. It had a strong cast, although the team known as the Bastards did not seem to have a lot of screen time; you hardly got to know any of them. It had i…

Marketing the Army... the 2010 way.
- 13 Feb 2010I saw something interested this past week. It was a commercial for the Canadian Armed Forces.

Movie Moment: Inkheart
- 04 Feb 2010My wife wanted to see this movie Inkheart, so I sat down and watched it with her. It was better than I expected. I guess it could be considered a family-fantasy movie with some action and adventure thrown in, and some darker themes placed throughout.

Nothing says athlete like a Big Mac.
- 01 Feb 2010I think it's silly that McDonald's has got the restaurant sponsorship for the Olympics. Could there be another restaurant as far away from the world of health, strength and discipline than McD's?

Movie Moment: Valkyrie
- 29 Jan 2010I watched Valkyrie this past week, and I enjoyed it. Tom Cruise plays a Nazi trying to remove Hitler from power. There's lots of great actors in it... and Tom Cruise as I mention ;) Actually, I really don't have a lot against Cruise in the movie world. It's not that I think he's an amazing actor, but I've enjoyed many of the characters he has played (as similar as they may have been). Anyway, I'm getting off track. One of the things I found interesting about the actors was that even they ran…

Movie Moment: Traitor
- 17 Dec 2009I saw Traitor this week. it was good. It's one of those international terrorist, FBI investigation type movies, along the same lines as Body of Lies ( but BoL was better ).

Movie Moment: Angels & Demons
- 04 Dec 2009Angels & Demons is the film sequel to the DaVinci Code staring Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor. I think the books were released in a different order than the movies though.

Movie Moment: Double Bill
- 02 Dec 2009My wife and I watched Knowing the other night (staring Nicolas Cage). I did not like it. The beginning was cool, but I found it soon lost it's edge. The only thing that kept me watching until the end was to see how the world was going to end, and if the writers actually went through with it. I didn't really care a whole lot about the characters, and what was supposed to be tense moments felt drawn out and tiring. I also did not like who the guys in the black trench-coats turned out to be. Lame…

Movie Moment - Doubt
- 15 Nov 2009Doubt stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, and Amy Adams. The story is about a nun (Streep) investigating a priest (Hoffman) whom she suspects is beginning an "inappropriate relationship" with one or more of the alter-boys.

Let's not confuse friendly with trustworthy.
- 06 Nov 2009It's always nice when we see people put trust in someone they don't know. It's friendly, and suggests that everyone in the world is not an evil criminal, as it appears the news would like us to believe from time to time. That said, I do think there is such a thing as putting too much faith in the kindness of strangers.

Mini Movie Moment: District 9
- 12 Sep 2009Wonderful movie. It has everything! But I'll keep it short so I don't spoil it.

Movie Moment: Passchendaele
- 05 Sep 2009Passchendaele - If you haven't heard of this war movie that came out last year, I'm not surprised. I'm guessing Canadian WW1 films don't get a whole lot of notice. Now let me say before I get into this review that I am biased for 2 main reasons. 1. It's a war movie about Canadian soldiers. There's not many of these around, so I automatically had an interest. 2. It was directed by and starring Paul Gross. A great Canadian actor that has done his best to keep his talent and love of film local.…

Movie Moment - the Watchmen
- 03 Sep 2009It was good. I had never read the book to compare it to, but it definitely doesn't feel like a superhero movie. Going in, I wasn't expecting a typical superhero movie, but this didn't feel like one at all. Yes, they are in there, but it was more of a crime drama to me then anything. That's not a bad thing, but at the same time I wasn't feeling pumped up by the whole event. By the end, I was happy to have seen it, but not excited that I had seen it. Rorschach was a great character though. He was…

Multilingual Word Substitution
- 27 Aug 2009You know what I find interesting? How some people will take 1 word they use everyday, and instead of saying that word in their native tongue, they'll say it in a different language.

Movie Moment: Pride and Glory
- 17 Aug 2009YES! This is my 3rd movie summary this month. NO! I don't know what's going on. Pride & Glory starring Colin Farrel, Noah Emmerick, Jon Voight, and of course, Ed Norton. It's a movie about a family of cops that get caught up in a drug bust cover up and the situation escalates from there. Sound pretty typical, and I guess the story really isn't all that creative. There's a few big name actors in it, and although they did a good job at spreading out the screen time to show them all off, the one…
