"Notre Dame de l'Assomption" à Quillan est mentionnée dès 930. C'est une église de style roman du XIVème siècle, qui fût restaurée au XVIIème siècle puis agrandie et transformée au XIXème siècle. Le clocher est une tour carrée d'une trentaine de mètres, coiffée d'un toit pyramidal avec des fenêtres plein cintres géminés. BETWEEN THE TREES IN THE EVENING LIGHT... "Our Lady of the Assumption" in Quillan is mentioned as early as 930. Puilaurens, ancien château fort dit "cathare", est perché à 697 m sur le Mont Ardu et se dresse sur son éperon rocheux au milieu d’une forêt de sapins. C'est une prouesse architecturale d'avoir adapté cette forteresse au relief escarpé ! (voir 2° photo ci-dessous, scannée d'après une carte postale). Au 13ème s. il a abrité des Cathares durant la croisade contre les Albigeois (= une croisade proclamée par l' Eglise catholique contre l'hérésie, principalement le catharisme). Plus d'infos ici . STRATEGIC LOCATION FOR PUILAURENS. This old Cathar fortress is perched at 697 m on Mont Ardu and stands on its rocky outcrop in the middle of a forest of fir trees. It is an architectural feat to have adapted this fortress to the steep relief! (see 2nd photo below, scanned from a postcard). In the 13th c. it sheltered Cathars during the Albigensian Crusade (= a crusade proclaimed by the Catholic Church against "heresy" mainly Catharism)! More information here . STRATEGISCHER STANDORT FÜR PUILAURENS. Diese alte Katharen-Festung "thront" auf dem Mont Ardu in 697 m Höhe und steht auf einem Felsvorsprung inmitten eines Tannenwaldes. Es ist eine architektonische Meisterleistung, diese Festung an das steile Relief angepasst zu haben ! (siehe 2. Foto unten, gescannt von einer Postkarte). Im 13. Jh. beschützte sie hier die Katharer während des Albigenserkreuzzuges (= ein von der katholischen Kirche ausgerufener Kreuzzug gegen die "Ketzerei", hauptsächlich den Katharerismus). It is not a time testimony ;-)) I guess there were no fences or railings on Puilaurens back then... CLÔTURE DE FORTERESSE. Elle n'est pas d'époque ;-)) Je suppose dans ces temps-là, il n'y avait pas de clôtures ou barrières sur Puilaurens... FESTUNGSZAUN. Es ist kein Zeitzeugnis ;-)) Ich schätze, damals gab es auf Puilaurens keine Zäune oder Geländer...

To visit the Puilaurens castle (see previous picture) it costs a bit of energy;-)) There is a long steep and rocky path to climb up, and that day it was very hot. So when finally I saw the first steps, I literally "collapsed" on the steps to sit down a while and rest. I could watch the amazing landscape around before continuing to climb, because these first steps are only the beginning of a long stair... MARCHES EN PIERRES - MEILLEURS BANCS DE TOUS LES TEMPS ! Pour visiter le château de Puilaurens (voir photo précédente) ça coûte un peu d'énergie;-)) Il y a un long chemin escarpé et caillouteux à monter, en plus, ce jour-là il faisait très chaud. Alors quand j'ai enfin vu ces premières marches, je m'y suis littéralement "effondrée" pour m'asseoir un moment et me reposer. J'ai pu contempler le magnifique paysage environnant avant de continuer à grimper, car ces premières marches ne sont que le début d'un long escalier... STEINSTUFEN - DIE BESTEN BÄNKE ALLER ZEITEN ! Die Festung Puilaurens (siehe vorheriges Bild) zu besuchen, kostet ein bisschen Kraft;-)) Man muss einen langen, steilen und steinigen Pfad hinaufsteigen, noch dazu war es an diesem Tag sehr heiss. Als ich endlich die ersten Stufen sah, bin ich buchstäblich darauf gesunken, um mich hinzusetzen und auszuruhen. Ich konnte die erstaunliche Landschaft um mich herum beobachten, bevor ich weiter kletterte, denn diese ersten Stufen sind nur der Anfang einer langen Treppe...

Vers 1886 il entreprend la restauration de l'église, quelques années après, il se lance dans la construction de la villa Béthanie, puis de la tour Magdala, d’une tour en verre, d’un belvédère, de l'orangerie, et le tout entouré par un jardin. Mais la question principale concerne les fonds considérables dont il aurait bénéficié pour effectuer ses travaux. Il se murmure qu'il aurait trouvé un trésor, ou que ce n’est pas le trésor trouvé mais les secrets contenus dans les parchemins trouvés dans l’un de ces piliers de l'autel qui auraient permis d’enrichir le curé et la paroisse - les secrets restent encore à dévoiler... D'autres informations ici . THE DOMAIN OF THE PRIEST is a place out of time with the astonishing story of Bérenger Saunière, a modest priest who forever transformed the destiny of this village. Around 1886 he undertook the restoration of the church, a few years later, he embarked on the construction of the Villa Béthanie, then the Magdala tower, a glass tower, a belvedere, the orangery, and all surrounded by a garden. But the main question concerns the considerable funds which he would have benefited from to carry out his work. It is rumored that he would have found a treasure, or that it's not the treasure found but the secrets contained in the parchments found in one of these pillars of the altar which would have made it possible to enrich the priest and the parish - the secrets have yet to be revealed... Le château actuel de Rennes-le-Château est l’un des derniers vestiges visibles du moyen âge dans le village. Seuls quelques pans de murs du XIIIème siècle attestent de l’ancienneté de cette bâtisse. Le reste fut essentiellement bâti dans le dernier tiers du XVIème siècle et au début du XVIIème siècle THE CASTLE OF HAUTPOUL. The current castle of Rennes-le-Château is one of the last visible vestiges of the Middle Ages in the village. Only a few sections of 13th century walls attest to the age of this building. The rest was mainly built in the last third of the 16th C. and at the beginning of the 17th C. DIE BURG VON HAUTPOUL. Die aktuelle Burg von Rennes-le-Château ist eines der letzten sichtbaren Zeugnisse des Mittelalters im Dorf. Nur wenige Teile der Mauern aus dem 13. Jh. zeugen vom Alter dieses Gebäudes. Der Rest wurde hauptsächlich im letzten Drittel des 16. Jh. und zu Beginn des 17. Jh. erbaut.

Dédiée à Marie-Madeleine , c'était l'ancienne chapelle des comtes du Razès, seigneurs de Rennes (11e s.), elle est partiellement détruite lors des guerres de Religion au 16e s. Délabrée et vétuste au 19e s., elle fait l'objet d'importantes restaurations par son curé Bérenger Saunière à partir de 1886. Il y aurait découvert d'étranges parchemins, un tombeau et un trésor qui sont à l'origine de la légende trésoraire du village. EINE SELTSAME KLEINE KIRCHE in Rennes-le-Château : beim Betreten links das Weihbecken, das die erstaunliche Besonderheit aufweist, von einem grimmigen Teufel, Asmodeus, getragen zu werden (der Überlieferung nach ist Asmodeus der Hüter der Schätze).Etwas weiter, über dem Tor des Friedhofs, ein Schädel. Maria-Magdalena gewidmet, war sie die ehemalige Kapelle der Grafen von Razès, Herren von Rennes (11. Jh.), während der Religionskriege im 16. Jh. teilweise zerstört und lag im 19. Jh. baufällig und verfallen. Ab 1886 wurde sie von ihrem Priester Bérenger Saunière umfassend restauriert. Es wird gesagt, dass er dort seltsame Pergamente entdeckt hätte, sowie ein Grab und einen Schatz, der den Ursprung der legendären Schatzjagd des Ortes ist.

In the keep of the Puivert castle you can visit the chapel, a square room of 8m side with vaults covered by cross vaults; also the guard room and the the musicians room. PENSEZ-VOUS QUE SUR LES COUSSIEGES LA LUMIERE DIVINE APPARAIT PLUS FACILEMENT ? Dans le donjon du château de Puivert on peut visiter la chapelle, une salle carrée de 8m de coté et voûtée sur croisées d'ogives; ainsi que la salle des gardes et la salle des musiciens. Le château de Puivert en pays cathare est posé sur une colline à 605 m. Il subsiste cinq tours sur les huit initiales dont le donjon haut de 35 m. Notamment grâce à son donjon bien conservé, il a servi a de nombreux tournages de films (Vous vous souvenez du film "La 9ème Porte" de Roman Polanski avec Johnny Depp ? La scène finale était ici...). MOVIE SET... The castle of Puivert in Cathar country is placed on a hill at 605 m. There remain five towers out of the initial eight, including the 35 m high keep. In particular thanks to its well preserved keep, it has been used for many film shoots (Do you remember the movie "The Ninth Gate" by Roman Polanski with Johnny Depp? The final scene was here...). La Cité médiévale de Carcassonne, avec ses 3 km de remparts et ses 52 tours, est classée au Patrimoine Mondial de l’UNESCO. Les traces de la succession des d’étapes de construction sont encore visibles sur ses murs et s’étalent de l’Antiquité jusqu’à la fin du Moyen-Age, lors de la visite on peut donc vivre un saut vertigineux de 2500 ans d'Histoire.
