Just Another Field ...

Been wanting to try and get some shots of the oilseed rape that loads of farmers around here seem to be growing at the moment and finally got a chance yesterday.
This was a field I came across on whilst exploring some of the small roads near to Kiplin Hall, North Yorkshire.
I know many people hate it as a crop as it can play havoc with their hay fever, but is sure adds some colour to the landscape.

Another one taken recently at Newby Hall in North Yorkshire.
I was admiring one of the many large conifers when I spotted this intruder, which appeared to have spotted an opportunity to take up residence in the upper canopy.
Ran it through the 'processing room' to try and emphasise the small, but beautiful stowaway, which I hope you'll enjoy seeing as much as I did.
Please view on black for best effect.

Well, we had the angry tree, so I guess this is the happy tree!
The central character was crafted from a shot I took a while back of some carved wood. To get to this stage it's been modified in many ways ... 'orbified', mirrored, etc.
As for the background. that was based on a shot I posted a while back of some autumnal leaves.

This week gone the topic for the Sunday Challenge was to revisit your favourite challenge . Loads to choose from then, but I eventually opted for pareidolia which was the topic a few weeks back.
This tree was spotted in Brompton, Northallerton and although the shot has been edited to create a little more drama the tree itself hasn't been 'photoshopped' as some might think or altered in any way ... it really was an angry tree!

The little bear, which is about 3 inches tall, is one of our Christmas ornaments and made from some sort of resin. The festive bokeh comes courtesy of our tree at the far end of the living room.
For this week's Sunday Challenge , which has the theme of Christmas .
Also, for Sight and Sound . Sorry, but I couldn't resist the chance to share some Shakin' Stevens with you guys:
Merry Christmas Everyone
The Best Christmas Of Them All
Blue Christmas
I'll Be Home This Christmas
In terms of uploads to ipernity, this is actually my 2,000th item.
So it seems apt that I take this opportunity not only to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, but thank you guys once again for all your visits, comments and faves since I came across from the dark side.

Yet another 'nearly ran' for this week's Sunday Challenge , which had the intriguing theme of texture .
This is actually a close up shot of the Kiwi sculpture I chose as my 'official' submission for the challenge and it shows in detail the carving that went into replicating the bird's feathers.
Also for Sight and Sound: Pictures & Music .
Sorry, but I couldn't resist it folks:

This amazing tree sculpture is located within Harrogate's beautiful Valley Gardens, which begin only yards from the town centre and which have attracted visitors to the area now for decades.
After WWII a wide variety of botanical specimens were planted and in 1957 the Christchurch Botanical Gardens in New Zealand generously donated a host of specimens which were planted in the New Zealand Garden, which was specially constructed for the purpose of accommodating them.
This area was redesigned in 2010 and now includes several wood carvings, including this one inspired by the Kiwi.
For this week's Sunday Challenge , which has the theme of texture .
Please take time to view it large for best effect.

Here's another shot I took whilst walking around a local wood trying to find inspiration for this week's Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of abstract nature .
Must admit as interesting as the textures were on the tree to start with this one has had some post processing done to emphasise the sense of the abstract. Hit z to view large for best effect.
You'll find a copy of the original SOOC shot in the Notes.

And yet another of the 'nearly made it' shots for this week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of trees .
The main subject, the tree on the left, is the same one as appears in my submitted entry: "Last Tree Standing". However, this time I've framed and cropped it to show more of the field and the surrounding trees.
I do like this myself very much, but think I may have processed it a little bit too much as the colours are quite strong?

Here's another of the 'nearly made it' shots for this week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of trees .
Once again the subject is the old elderberry tree that is at the bottom of our garden. One of the larger branches was obviously sawn off in the distant past and this is looking straight on to the cut section.
Not quite as sharp as I might have liked so I can see me revisiting this one at some point in the future.

Here's one of the 'nearly made it' shots for this week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of trees .
This is actually an old, make that a very old, elderberry tree that is at the bottom of our garden. The bark is quite spectacular even if I suspect most of the tree is now dead.

For this week's Sunday Challenge , which has the theme of trees .
Although I did go out this week and take a lot of shots with the challenge in mind, this particular one is one I took a while back whilst out cycling and which I hadn't got around to uploading.
The field crop had obviously just been harvested and I liked the barren feel not only of the tree, but the surrounding landscape ... a kind of scorched earth scene.

This is my entry for this week's Sunday Challenge which had the theme of selective colouring .
For anyone that likes to know about such matters, I use PaintShop Pro whenever I'm doing this kind of exercise: although I know there are loads of other options available.
I start by getting the original image tweaked to the point where I'm happiest with it and then create a duplicate layer, which I sit above the original image. I then convert the duplicate layer to mono/greyscale before deleting out the area I want to highlight, which then lets the coloured original underneath show through.
Finally, all I need to do is merge down the two layers to form one single image ... job done!
This particular shot was taken a while back, but I'd never gotten around to posting it online and I felt it leant itself well to this week's challenge.
Mr Smiley always makes me smile when I see him and hopefully he'll have the same effect on anyone visiting my photostream.
Blue Christmas ...

A similar shot to the one I submitted for the recent Sunday Challenge , which had the theme of Christmas .
This one processed to reflect the 'other side' of Christmas. With 1 in 4 people in the UK expected tp experience a mental health problem each year and loneliness on the increase (especially in the over Seventies) it would seem that not everyone will have the type of Christmas they might have wished for.
Not so much merry or even white, but rather more lonely and blue. My thoughts then go out to those people for whom this Christmas may not be the happiest. Hopefully, 2015 will see them experience better times.

A 'nearly ran' for the recent Sunday Challenge in which we were asked to all work with the same photograph.
The original image was entitled simply Snowman Christmas and was created by UNKWinc over on Deviant Art . A copy of their image can be found in the Notes on the top left-hand corner of my interpretation.
Snowglobe On Ice ...

An unusual week for those involved with The Sunday Challenge : quite possibly the maddest, baddest, craziest, and friendliest group on ipernity.
Instead of being given a theme and then having to take a photograph to accompany it we were given an image produced by someone else and told to "do your magic however you see fit" . That said, it wasn't a challenge intended to just see who could work the old sliders best.
For those not involved with TSC and to give credit to the person who produced the initial image I've inserted a copy of it in the Notes: top right-hand corner.
Entitled simply Snowman Christmas it was created by UNKWinc over on Deviant Art .
Initially I thought of using it as the basis for some sort of Christmas card. Then I thought of an orb, but I felt that would perhaps lose too much of the original image, before settling on the idea of trying to create a snowglobe.
EDIT: 15/12/2014:
I've been asked by a couple of folks how I produced this image so I've cobbled together an article, which I think gives enough information for anyone who isn't practised in working with layers etc to have a go at making their own snowglobe:
