Posted for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of "THE ONE THAT ALMOST GOT AWAY (you know how it is, you find the perfect photo just a little too late for the theme, so post it now and say which theme it would’ve fitted) YES!!! I am SOOO happy to have found this photo, finally - and whoever came up with this theme - brilliant. This was the perfect photo for the "awards, etc." theme - and I knew it was somewhere in the house, but WTH??? It's a large 8 by 10 and I couldn't imagine where I'd put it. So annoying! Finally found it, though, (yesterday) sandwiched between two other large photographs at the bottom of a drawer.! And I love knowing how all of you fellow collectors can identify with the joy of finding the missing item! This is a photograph of my husband's grandfather, Ernest Illingworth, taken by the Springfield Recorder. (Vermont.), the local newspaper. Every year, on Ernest's birthday, he would go down to the town pool and dive in from the high diving board. This was his 80th birthday, and the local paper recorded his being presented with an award/certificate. (For bravery or craziness??) He was born August 18, 1884. in Yorkshire, England, and here he is, celebrating his 80th birthday on August 18, 1964 in Springfield, Vermont. Now I can sleep easy. : )

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: SPORTING EVENTS OR COMPETITIONS It took me forever to find this Real Photo Postcard of my husband's maternal grandfather, Ernest Illingworth, who is ready to run on the far left. A frustrating search, but looks like I'm not the only one having trouble with this week's topic! I like the lad perching on the pole to the far left. That can't have been too comfortable! I wonder who the winner was in this long ago race?

Vermont Basketball Team 1905/06

I assume this is a basketball team. The men are unknown except for the man on the left in the back row - that's Ernest Illingworh, husband of Ada Grimshaw. www.adamaygrimshaw.blogspot.com (My husband's grandparents.) His family emigrated from Engalnd to Bellows Falls, Vermont about eight miles south of Springfield. I think Ernest is in his early twenties here but they are wearing the Springfield High School "S" so I'm puzzled by that.
