As I take an autumnal walk through my local park, I cannot pass this bench without recording it.
HBM, enjoy the day.

A walk in our local park yesterday displayed some nice summer flowers. Here is a close up of the Mountain Cornflower head. We have these in our garden too but our friendly squirrel ate all the heads.

A winter scene from my local Alexandra Park here. Another from the archives (2008) but still standing the test of time – I think. Not a time to sit here today but in summer it is a very nice place for a read or rest.

Have a great day.

Another look at this Alexandra Park in Oldham , now toward the old ‘Lions den’ pavilion. This was another ramshackled structure until being completely re-furbished some years back now. A stone lion still sits at the foot of each front corner. Of course it is this burning gold tree that really strikes us here, a sign that Autumn is well under-way and Winter is just around the corner.
Full screen essential.

There's something about snow and sun that makes it all worth it. We don't get too much of this here -when it snows, its dull and cold and miserable but on this day in our local park, the world was once again beautiful. Just a few hours of snow before a sudden thaw making my trip out, well worth it.
Nb Three more beautiful shots taken at the same time. PiP (top left)

Sometimes we just have to take a walk. Get into the fresh air, feel the wind in our face and cold air on our hands (sometimes, even warm air!) - Here in my local park I see the sun’s rays reaching through the trees towards me and hear the soft rustle of falling leaves as I stop and gaze at this new-to-me fence.
HFF on this our last one of this year. See you next year.

I am here at my local Alexandra park again collecting yet more Autumn scenes. Taken just before the best of this year’s Autumn golds but on a beautiful clear dry day. Notice on the lawns across, the now very local Canadian Geese that have taken up residence here. – Sorry for the slightly out-of-focus fence, I was obviously too taken up with the landscape and light.
I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

This park really comes into its own at this time of year. Not only do we have the wonderful yellow and golds of Autumn but we also have a local grey heron waiting for sight of a fish. Rather unusual sky lighting as a big dark cloud was moving into the scene from the right. Breaking all the rules as well by having this big tree stump divide the picture in half :)
Worth full size.

My local park certainly comes into its own each Autumn. - Only yesterday, after posting one of last years Autumn shots did I think that I was not going to be as lucky this year, and look what happens.
Enjoy large.

Here in my home town of Oldham, UK, we have a splendid public park. There are quite a few fences in there but this one recently caught my attention as it has just been completely re-furbished. An old Edwardian style wrought iron fence with a brand new coat of paint makes it a pleasure to view.
(All right then, I know some people would describe this as a bridge railing but hey….it does carry on after the bridge…I think!)
I wish you all, a great weekend, Herb

Autumn is perhaps my favourite time of year for outdoor photography. I love the golden trees and the dappled sunlight as it burns through the early morning mist as demonstrated here.

Fenced-in Conservatory

There is something going on here at Oldham’s Alexandra Park Conservatory. The whole inside almost pulsates with light as though some link to another world is taking place… And…someone or something has transported all the beautiful hot-house plants to …where? - Only to replace them with bits of wood in a most haphazard, even explosive fashion! It’s perhaps just as well that a high well-locked fence protects us on this side, as there is no telling what might happen to us if we should try to pass through that door!
HFF. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Rebecca at the well sees the light

Alexandra Park in Autumn and a photo just a few days after Halloween when pumpkins dominated. Here is someone’s idea of a joke and brings a smile to me.
This statue has history: it replaces an earlier one of the very same nature that was placed in the park in 1865 but was damaged beyond repair in 1956. In 2004 Sculpture Andrew Sinclair created this replica, he only had a fuzzy photo of the original and so enlisted the help of a young 23yr old model called Naomi.
It is said that this original statue was based on the biblical character of Rebecca, in which two references come to light:
1) “Before he had finished speaking, there was Rebecca…. Coming out with her water jar on her shoulder.
The girl was very fair to look upon, a young girl, whom no man had known.
She went down to the spring, filled her jar, and came up.’ Genesis 24:1-27.”
2) The Betrothal and Marriage of Rebecca
Rebecca was the young woman who became the wife of Isaac, Sarah’s son. She came from a well-to-do family in upper Mesopotamia, now north eastern Syria. She was a relative of Abraham; her family background is given in Genesis 22:20-23.
Rebecca was beautiful, shrewd, energetic, physically robust and strong-willed. We first meet her at the well of Aram-naharaim, where she showed that she was willing to work, and confident enough to speak without fear to the strangers who had been sent by Abraham to find a wife for Isaac.
This moment, with its symbolism of the well and water, has been popular with artists through the ages.
Of course 'Halloween' is also derived from the bible: 'All Hallows' Eve', (The eve of 'All Saints Day'

A light autumn mist compels me to dash to my local Alexandra Park again and I am not disappointed in what I see. Here is perhaps its most noteworthy sculpture –its fountain. For many years devoid of water and life, thankfully fully restored now to its former glory as seen here. Of course once again it really the light here that makes it for me, hopefully for you too.
