  • What to do when it rains

Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke, when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues smoking. Arlene: What in the hell is that? Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet. Arlene: Where did you get it? Jane: You can get them at any pharmacy. The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local pharmacy and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.… (read more)

  • Food, and More

Since my week working on a supermarket rotisserie section, I’ve been off my food a little. For many reasons, and for a while now, my son and I have been having fish about once a week, twice at most, vegetarian meals twice a week, then meat meals. Since being poorly, we’ve decided to up the vegetarian/vegan meals to 3 or 4 times a week. The stink of the cooking really did put me off and my stomach has been out of sorts for a little while; nothing major, just not happy. We have a number of vegetar… (read more)

  • Hob Nailed Boots

When I was in school, so many years ago, our physics teacher also taught us about personal hygiene. He was a bear of a man, and you played up in his class at your peril. Even so, he was one of my favourite teachers and his lessons were always interesting. He used to liken germs to little creatures that wore hob nailed boots, and he’d draw said creatures on the board for us. Last week was my son’s first week back in uni, and he had 2 full days there. Tuesday, he came home complaining that a st… (read more)

  • Photosophy

Photosophy by Ern Jacoby PhD The year 2000 was a turning point for me as a photographer. I hold a little gem of my deceased father in my hands, a Leica M3. And since I develop my skill, the concept "photosophy" expresses best the linking of visual imagery with philosophy: The art of light and the research of wisdom, combined as photo-sophia or photo-sophy. The speed of light in vacuum is the universal physical constant, postulated as invariance by Einstein in 1905. Light or photons move… (read more)

  • Bread

    Rustic Loaf

Saturday was a strange day. The day had a muggy feel and by 9am, the temperature was already 16C. I popped to the supermarket for a few items, still no yeast, and enjoyed a relatively fraught-free shop apart from a couple, clearly together, each with a large trolley, walking abreast, and effectively blocking the aisle for anyone trying to social distance. Most people are good, and doing what we’re told, however there’s always one or two who you could cheerfully kneecap. Anyway… I put a load o… (read more)

  • Important Tips for Fire Prevention in the Workplace

Fire prevention measures usually don’t yield any results, but when they do, they save lives. There is no such thing as a fireproof building. There are only ways to mitigate human loss and property damage. This article will list core strategies to avoid disaster in case of a workplace fire. Use fire retardant materials When constructing or renovating your workspace, don’t skimp out on you and your employee’s safety. Wall insulation materials can turn a raging inferno into an easily h… (read more)

  • Cannelloni

500g minced beef. I prefer to use lean beef, though this will be dictated by personal preference/budget. Diced onion. Garlic if liked. 400g tin tomatoes or passata. Mushrooms - if using cannelonni, I chop these. If using spaghetti, I slice them. 4 or 5 pices of cubed butternut squash - I buy this frozen, in a bag, or a grated carrot. quarter of a cup of dried green lentils, cooked separately in a scant amount of water until almost soft. Herbs. Splash of balsamic vinegar if liked - diffe… (read more)

  • Shadow Light and Lines

Shadows, light & lines captures the eye from this weathered wall. Believe it or not, this photo was made with the iPad Mini camera. Something that I always love to see is elements that create strong composition in the square format. The morning sunlight through the trees casts a shadow onto the wall of this vintage garage in my neighborhood. The vertical lines provided by the plants create an added touch of the grid pattern needed to complete this moment in time. I chose black and white bec… (read more)

  • Had the urge to make another octofloop....

A deflated body and stuffed feet!!!!

Well I managed to go a few days without making another octofloop, but I couldn't resist. So I found some spare material and started to make this cuddly octofloop. Apparently the daughter of Emily calls it an "offalop" but I couldn't remember the name so I call it an octofloop instead!!!! Anyway, it didn't take much time for me to cut the various shapes and I went and found another bag full of stuffing - so I set off to make it..... This is the deflated body with 8 stuffed round legs. Min… (read more)

  • Pod Sisters & Cyber Brothers, I Salute You!

124/365: "Friendship is a word, the very sight of which in print makes the heart warm." ~ Augustine Birrell [Explore to #6!]

One of the nicest things about online photography sites like ipernity is how it brings us all together into a close-knit community of like-minded friends. Flickr was my first online photography home and as I began to become a better photographer, I also made new friends. As important as it is to take pictures, it's also very important to look at other people's photography for inspiration, instruction, and often to see the world in a completely different way. Part of my daily routine (unless I… (read more)

  • Kreuzpolarisierung - so geht´s

    Kreuzpolarisierung

(read more)

  • Trying out different lenses

View of the tree and window

I thought I'd try out more lenses of my new camera and as this morning, we had some sort of lighter periods during the day, which actually turned into awful rain and strong gusts of winds later on. I took the advantage of the lightness and started to take some pictures of my lounge. I liked the angle of the lens and so took more pics. Trouble is ................... I've forgotten which lens it was, or rather which button I pressed...... Will have to try them all again. No you're not seei… (read more)

  • CORRECTION....... I have Petunias not peonies..

I think this is a Californian poppy - cos it's orange

Before I go and look at my page for yesterday's blog, I just want to apologise for saying that I'd bought peonies the other day - I hadn't......... No doubt the gardeners of you out there were shouting at your computer at me, saying .... probably rude words..... that I was wrong. LOL They are petunias - so sorry for any confusion... The sun came out today, well this afternoon it did and it was lovely and warm. I looked outside and saw how long the grass was on the lawn - this meant I had t… (read more)

  • Copying my slides and negatives

    small P1190013

No doubt most of us from pre-digital days have collections of slides and/or negatives, waiting to receive a new digital rendering. I have been asked what process I use to copy these slides and negatives: here's a short summary of what I do and why I do things this way. Over the years I have owned a couple of dedicated slide/film scanners and, frankly, I was never totally satisfied with the results from them. One of the characteristics of the old slide film, particularly Kodak, was that it w… (read more)
