Trying out different lenses

I thought I'd try out more lenses of my new camera and as this morning, we had some sort of lighter periods during the day, which actually turned into awful rain and strong gusts of winds later on.

I took the advantage of the lightness and started to take some pictures of my lounge. I liked the angle of the lens and so took more pics. Trouble is ................... I've forgotten which lens it was, or rather which button I pressed...... Will have to try them all again.

No you're not seeing things - my chandelier is wonky and I really must fix it with some super glue or something like that... also the ceiling paper was caught by the yucca plant and now I have to find the same coloured paint to touch it up [and find a ladder high enough to reach it] ..............

Then I went round to the chimney breast and the mantlepiece.............

This is the wall that is the closest to me..............

This was fun taking it, it's behind the sofa and it was quite a feat to take it twisting round...............

The door goes out into the hallway, as you can see, I have lots of stuff around me........

Then we come back to the other wall, my feature wall of my pictures. I have more frames, I tend to buy quite a lot and find other pictures to go in them.........

So you see, I've sort of managed to do a full 360 of my lounge - I do like the lens - certainly must find out what it is.............

I really want to decorate this room as it's been 12 years now since I painted it and it's time for a change, but it's trying to think of what colour to do. Maybe a bronze and cream/white, but it's such a big tall room, it costs a packet to do it.

I absolutely adore the color you have it.. So very soothing.. The bronze might be a bit dark.. What do you think of a mocha/cream? Or if you can find just that right shade of gold. The sort of mustard gold that isn't too bright but has a soothing sense to it? Along with a lovely eggshell..

I was thinking of a bronze type of colour, with a sheen that would reflect the sun. The sun shines on this room for most of the day. So it can take a darkish colour, although I wouldn't want it too dark. Mocha and cream does sound rather nice, but I want a colour that this room hasn't been yet. With my family having lived in this house for 55 years, it's rather difficult. Maybe I'll keep it this colour until I'm 100per cent sure of the proper colour.

The problem with the yucca is that this is the only room that has a high enough ceiling for it, but even now, it's grown too much - must be over 18ft tall now.

Stormlizard ^club

The answer to a Yucca is to periodically chop the lower part away then let the rest produce a new root. I did it to the one I had until I decided somebody with a higher ceiling could have it.

Thanks for the tip John, I've never heard of that. It's too damn big and old to try it now, but if I should ever be daft enough to get another one, I'll try it. Thanks for your comments on my pics.

Very nice colour scheme. I like the ceiling! Such a nice change from boring white - which all mine are! lol

Thanks Fran. I'm so lucky that I live in a house with tall big rooms, which can take bolder colours. I am considering changing the colour but to date, can't think of a colour I could live with and also who will do the decorating. I did it myself years ago, but now I can't do it so it'll be a case of asking someone else to do it for me.

.. the home I grew up in had grand rooms like that -- but, when we moved in it had been turned into apartments - one upstairs and one down.
.. still remember helping Mom scrape wallpaper off the upstairs hallway --- 5 layers! Each one was worse than what was just scraped off, too.
.. Dad did lots of re-arranging to the rooms.. took out the kitchen upstairs and made a huge bedroom
.. oh, it just went on and on
.. have driven by that house and it still looks grand [ at least outside ]

.. agree -- take your time on color --- cause you have a lot of space to be covered !

.. Bee Orchid -- when we repainted our Florida home [ plaster walls and ceilings ] -- it was a stark white. Changed the walls to a very pale yellow and ceiling .... just added a touch of the wall color to the ceiling paint so it wasn't white. Hope the new owners like it - if not, guess they will be painting!

I hate to think of how many layers of paper there are on the walls, what I do know is, there is paper [original] behind the shutters which is about 200 years old, hand painted etc. Really pretty but so so fragile. I can't hurry with my choice of decorating - rooms this size costs money and that's something I don't have, neither can I do it myself anymore, so the cost would escalate on getting someone to do it for me.
