"Trollfjord" at Kirkenes

We travelled on the "Trollfjord" here seen at our most easterly point at Kirkenes, only a few km from the Russian border. In the past few days I have learned that Hurtigruten have now re-named the ship as the "Maud", after the first Queen of Norway, as well as Roald Amundsen´s 1917 polar exploration vessel. I gather she will now be used for expedition type cruises.

Looks a great little ship George. We really fancied doing a coastal Norwegian cruise with Hurtigruten too but I believe it can get rather nosy at nights when they dock at many little harbours for postal deliveries etc. Another fine capture here though.

Thank you, Herb. We heard virtually no noise during any stops. I think the secret is to not have a cabin on the lower decks near where freight is moved. Our cabin was on the same level as the yellow top on the lifeboats and a little toward the stern.

A classic and beautiful photo! Yes, I also read that three Hurtigruten ships are being renamed and will be running "expedtion" cruises because Hurtigruten will have to share the coastal route with Havila Kystruten in the new contract with the Norwegian state.
