Nearing Kirkenes on the Hurtigruten ship "Trollfjord" (since renamed), we passed through this area of thin sea ice. Best viewed large. I have been prompted to post this image by seeing another from nearly the same position, but taken almost exactly a year later and posted on ipernity by Gudrun in the past few days.

It's your choice for the title - the ship is the "Trollfjord", itself named after the famous fjord directly ahead. I understand the fjord is navigable right through, but that wasn't going to work for our 16,000 tonnes of ship! It was at this "photo moment" that the ship reversed course. :-) HFF and have a great weekend, everyone. Explored.

We travelled on the "Trollfjord" here seen at our most easterly point at Kirkenes, only a few km from the Russian border. In the past few days I have learned that Hurtigruten have now re-named the ship as the "Maud" , after the first Queen of Norway, as well as Roald Amundsen´s 1917 polar exploration vessel. I gather she will now be used for expedition type cruises. Explored. My involvement on ipernity is limited at present, so my apologies if I do not respond to your comments or visit your images - I shall try to do so as far as possible.

I guess this will resonate with my European friends currently in a heatwave. An early morning view as our ship crossed the Arctic Circle on its way northward. The sphere on the island is the latitude marker. Explored. Circumstances unrelated to photography will limit my involvement on ipernity for some time.
