college of arms, queen victoria street, london
this side wing facing into a courtyard was built in 1671-3 by maurice emmett jnr.: in the 1860s the porch and steps were added by george plucknett when this became the main facade to a new street which removed the opposite wing of the quadrangle. the pilasters with their garlanded ionic capitals and diamond badged bands are the most obvious remaining c17 feature externally, rather old fashioned artisan mannerist work for the time.
