A rarity these days! I recall in 1980s it was a popular car color.

Oh yes, I remember !
Just when the Berlin Wall was fallen, a collegue and friend of mine was so absolutely happy: in second-hand he bought a shocking-yellow car. Every time I met him, I thought: postman is coming ! (it was the colour of our german official post-company; some years later they turned it to MAGENTA).
