Sunshine Skyway Bridge – St. Petersburg, Florida.

Die Brücke überspannt die Tampa Bay und verbindet die Stadt Saint Petersburg mit Terra Ceia. Mit einer Länge von 8'851 Metern (5,5 Meilen) gehört sie zu den längsten Brücken mit einer Schrägseil-Mittelöffnung. Die Durchfahrtshöhe beträgt 53,3 m.
Der Bau begann 1982 und kostete 667 Mio. $. Die Brücke wurde am 07. Februar 1987 eingeweiht und am 20. April 1987 für den Verkehr freigegeben.

1980 krachte während eines Sturmes ein Frachtschiff in einen Brückenpfeiler, wobei ein grosser Teil der Brücke einstürzte. Darauf wurde diese Brücke hier gebaut.

Vergiss die dumme Bemerkung, Poly! Ich war noch nie dort und hatte im Hinterkopf Szenen aus Onkel Toms Hütte und aus den Abenteuern des Huckleberry Finn in Erinnerung, die solche Fantasie-Bilder erzeugt haben. Ich weiß natürlich, dass das unwirkliche Vorstellungen sind.

Volker, ach so! Na, da bist du in amerikanischen Verhältnissen gemessen gar nicht so weit entfernt. Die Mündung des Mississippi ist nur ein paar hundert Kilometer westlich von hier. Und landschaftlich sieht es hier in Florida durchaus ganz ähnlich aus. :-)

Berny, landschaftlich finde ich Florida nicht so aufregend, wie andere Gegenden. Aber es gibt andere Dinge, die man hier besuchen kann; u.a. das Kennedy Space Center. Aber rostmässig könnte es schon noch was hergeben. ;-))
