The "decoration" of this trees is the so-called "Spanish Moss". However, these are not really moss, but a plant that belongs to the family of pineapple (Bromeliaceae) and feeds on the humidity. In some places the oak alleys are covered so thickly with Spanish Moss that a continuous gray-green ceiling (or canopy) from this plant has formed. --> see Canopy Road, Tallahassee
