Gudrun, ja, man kann da stundenlang zusehen, wie die Raben Nestpflege betreiben.
Das Projekt war übrigens schon VOR Corona gestartet. :)

Toll, aber wo sind die anderen Eier?

Daniela, ich weiss es nicht. Die Live Cam ist eben live, ich kann leider nicht zurückdrehen und nachschauen, was passiert ist. Aber es ist anzunehmen, dass in einem der Eier kein Junges geschlüpft ist, weil es ev. schon tot war. Erfroren oder so, es war sehr kalt im März. Und das zweite Junge, das zwar geschlüpft war, aber jetzt nicht mehr da ist, hat ev. nicht genug Nahrung bekommen; es hat seinen Schnabel vielleicht zuwenig aufgemacht, als der Vater mit Nahrung kam. Irgendwann ist es vermutlich gestorben, und dann haben die Eltern es aus dem Nest gestossen. Das ist eben die Natur: es überleben nur die Stärksten.

Ich weiss, ich muss immer daran denken wenn ich die Filme von der BBC sehe. Wenn ein Tier
isst, dann ist es fast immer ein anderes Tier. Ich selber bin nicht Vegan wie Du, ich esse Fleisch und es schmeckt mir. Aber es ist traurig.

Daniela, ich bin auch nicht vegan; ich bin ein Quasi-Vegetarier, der ab und zu mal noch etwas Fleisch isst. :)

Auf den hohen Bäumen im Schulhofbereich zweier Gymnasien sind sehr viele Nester. In einem Bereich direkt über den Fahrdabstellplätzen - die Bosenfläche hat eine intensive weiße Patina. Zur Zeit geht's den Vögeln nicht so gut - keine Pausenabfälle von vespterbroten etc.

Rapi, ja, das hat natürlich etwas.
Aber es ist vielleicht auch ganz gut, wenn die überfütterten Stadttauben, -Krähen und andere ein wenig dezimiert werden. In gewissen Städten sind sie regelrecht zur Plage geworden. Wobei um die Krähen mache ich mir keine Sorgen; die sind äusserst schlau.

Karen, here, especially in cities, crows are partly a plague and therefore also hated from the people. With this project they try to bring the crows closer to the people and to gain understanding. :)

I really hope it works to enlighten the people. It's always puzzled me why so many people don't like crows and ravens. They are so beautiful and intelligent.

We have crows and ravens here. The ravens have their babies in the neighboring woods and those babies sound like old screaming women when they are learning to talk. The first time I heard them I thought someone was being attacked in the woods. :D

Karen, oh, I think this this myth of being attacked by crows is still very much alive because of Hitchcock's movie "The Birds". ;-))

Oh, I forgot all about that movie! Oh yeah, I remember being traumatized by it when I was just a wee child but I've overcome that fear by learning some really wonderful things about them since then. Yes, no wonder so many fear and hate the crows. That's really so unfair to the crows though. I'm very encouraged by your "Web Cam." :)

Karen, I have started watching the documentary, but I am not finished yet.
But there are some astonishing things:
05:55: "When ever something bad is gonna happen on a movie you hear a crows call in a distance."
This contributes a lot to the negative image of crows.

The thing with the masks (from 06:00) is really amazing too!

Yeah, they've really used some effective subtle programming in movies for sure.

The thing with the masks is amazing. My sister used to work in Seattle and she would take a walk on her lunch hour each day. There was a crow that would yell at her on her walk. She didn't ever figure out why but every day it would be there scolding her. They are such interesting birds.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the video. Unfortunately, it does have some sadness like most stories about animals.

Yes, the animals are more and more pushed to the edge by us humans. Recently I read an article about insects. In the last 20 years there has been a 75% decrease in insect species! That is very alarming!
But you can find also ► funny stuff about crows in the net. :-)

Die Brutzeit der Saatkrähen ist abgeschlossen.
Am Samstag, 9. Mai um 17:57 Uhr hat der erste der beiden Jungvögel das Nest verlassen. Der zweite Jungvogel hat sich am Sonntag 10. Mai entschlossen und sprang mutig in einen neuen Lebensabschnitt.
