sand collection

Saturday Self-Challenge – theme 04.04.2020: "collections"
∩∩∩∩ₒ∩∩ₒ∩∩∩∩∩∩
While other people buy souvenirs in their holidays, I took a bit of sand or ground/gravel (in a film box) everywhere I went and put it in small glass bottles. In the picture you see a part of them.
Besides sand from different beaches, deserts and parks it also has sand/ground from very prominent places. So from Graceland (Elvis' home in Memphis), the Vatican in Rome, the pyramids in Giza, Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna and the labyrinthine backyard of a Russian cellist's flat in St. Petersburg's Smolinksy district....
So meanwhile I'm a big landowner! I own some ground in many countries.
;-)

polytropos club has replied to BoroYou take sand... and only you know what you leave behind...
polytropos club has replied to Xata clubI hopefully left a good impression ;-)
polytropos club has replied to Dida From Augsburg clubpolytropos club has replied to Wierd Folkersma clubWhen we went to Mt. Rushmore my son just had to have some of the sparkly gold sand and rocks from there so I let him collect some in an empty film container. :)
raingirl club has replied to Karen's Place clubpolytropos club has replied to Karen's Place clubYes, that's why 'polytropos' ;-) But it's true, I spent large part of my money to travel to other countries. But, I do not own a house, a second car, a holiday home at the lake and no children. ;-)
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention the sand of Mt. Rushmore. I also took some when I went there in 1996.
Karen's Place club has replied to polytropos clubThe sand at Mt. Rushmore was so pretty. :)

polytropos club has replied to Valfal clubYes, it's worth more than a purchased souvenir, which probably comes from China anyway. ;-)
polytropos club has replied to Janpolytropos club has replied to Chrissy clubNaja, ich hatte auch viel mehr Jahre Zeit um herumzureisen, als du. ;-)
hatte da natürlich gleich eine Assoziation...

Munsell kannte ich bislang noch nicht. Ich kenne nur die Farbpaletten von RAL, NCS, StoColor und Marmoran (Verputze). :)
polytropos club has replied to Esther clubI've seen you get around a lot too. :)
polytropos club has replied to Bruce Dean (Puchinpa… clubUnfortunately it is meanwhile difficult to get such small bottles.
so i have a couple questions
1) are they displayed in date order of collection? or random? or perhaps by area of the world?
2) when did you start labeling your collections?
i have collected small (and larger) rocks and a few shells from beaches and walks, but always forgot to label them!!! a sad state. the few i have remembered to label i really love. the rest i have to imagine general travels - it works somewhat.
the only sand collection i didn't label that didn't need a label was from the black sand beach in Hawaii (before they said - no collecting, i think. i was young and i don't know as my mom knew i was doing it). i will always remember that one!
polytropos club has replied to raingirl clubTo answer your questions:
1) I displayed it in order of data I collected the sand. So it's easier to find again, because I still know approximately in which year I was at a certain place.
It also has the advantage that I do not always have to rearrange the glasses. I can always just add at the end.
2) I started about 1980 with the collection. And shortly after that I started filling the sand into glasses and labeling them.
Yes, I have also collected larger stones, which do not fit into the glasses. And there I also have the problem that I can't remember where some of them came from. :-)
polytropos club has replied to Gillian Everett clubThe work of a long life ;-)
polytropos club has replied to HaarFager clubThat's the easier way and you avoid having to go looking for small bottles.
Have a nice day and stay healthy!
polytropos club has replied to Annemarie clubOh, then you should show them to us! ;-)
So können kleine Dinge Freude machen.
polytropos club has replied to Heide clubJa, und man kann sich viel besser an den Ort erinnern, als mit einem gekauften Souvenir, das wahrscheinlich eh aus China kommt. :-)
polytropos club has replied to Falk Preusche clubJa, das sind Olivine.
polytropos club has replied to Heidiho clubSo weit hab' ich's nicht gebracht!
