Waves pound The Buckle - Bishopstone - photographed from Castle Hill, Newhaven - 21.10.2014

The shingle shifters are back at work. On a day like today it could be a soul-destroying task moving the shingle back from the ends of the beach to the centre, only to see more being sucked down the beach. The shingle bank acts as Seaford's sea defences. So much shingle has been moved in the last year, it is likely that more will have to be recovered from the sea by dredging either locally or from banks further away.
From a couple of hundred yards to the right all the way through to Newhaven Harbour there are no built sea defences apart from the banked shingle beach and some low earthworks.
