Tortoiseshells - East Blatchington - 9.3.2014
This couple were up to no good, way up in our neighbours' conifer hedge. Unfortunately my lens is not of paparazzi quality. However this was my first butterfly photo of 2014, so I thought I would put it on record.

I had seen a couple more, one passing through our garden and another in nearby Newhaven, in the past week. I was surprised to see them this early, but it has been very mild this winter. Although we have had a light frost in the last few days, it hasn't been below 4 or 5 degrees at night for most of the winter.
