The two Red Admiral butterflies were having a hard time getting a peaceful nibble at these very ripe figs. The bees, flies and wasps all wanted to benefit from the unpicked fruit, going to rot on the tree, overhanging a local pavement.

These photographs were taken while waiting for a bus at the Newhaven railway station bus stop, which backs on to the Newhaven Port ferry terminal. The Large White was flying up and down the glazed back of the bus shelter.

This is the first butterfly that I have seen this year. It was accompanied by an almost white butterfly, which I assume was its, even paler, female mate. The lady didn't hang around to have her photo taken.

I think that the 'halo' must be a flower petal, but it defines the head nicely.
