A Surprise Visitor ! ~ Monarch (Danaus plexippus)(f)
A beautiful female seen today.

I never usually see them until October/November when the migration back to Mexico is happening. This year I saw two flying high overhead on 17th April and now this beauty today !

Good news! Great shot. My sister who lives in Illinois north of Chicago has set out milkweed and has raised and set free about 10 monarchs so far this year. I have butterfly weeds and planted milkweed this year. However, I am probably too far south for breeding. The butterfly weeds however along with other flowers, will provide a food source for them on their migrations south if any should happen this way. Fingers crossed.

Some do come through on the way up.. the milkweed will always be a boon to others as well. I cannot grow it here.. I have tried and tried. There are two native kinds around here supposedly and I have NEVER seem any !

So.. I just supply the False Sunnies for a meal !
