Wish I'd caught this one sharper, but my excuse is that I only had the camera-phone with me and the lighting here was really subdued.
I adored these straw giraffes in the United Nations gift shop.

Deliberately lazy stitch of images from the top of the Empire State — the very first place I went in New York City! Once I'd been up there it all made sense, and I found my way around pretty easily. I finally understand just how helpful the numbered street and grid system can be.
You really need to view it large; ideally full size and scroll.

Many years on! I last met up with my wonderful cousins in Scotland, when I was about 15.

Apollo 18 lander

In the "Cradle of Aviation" museum at the old Grumman works on Long Island.
This isn't a museum mock-up: it's the actual lander which would have gone to the moon had not the Apollo 18 mission been cancelled.

I have no idea what he was saying, but he said it a lot. These guys reminded me of Les Fatals Picards, a recent French Eurovision entry... although they really surprised me when they did one song in pigeon Russian! I tried communicating with them in my Ukraino-Russian (!) which is a damn sight better than my French, but didn't get very far!

Sorry about the motion blur — this is an incredibly dark underground vice den! ;)
A bunch of Algerian and Québecois folks were running the venue in an otherwise pretty run down industrial area, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The local authorities have since closed it down.

In the Basilique Notre-Dame in old Montréal.
This place brought a tear to my eye. Not for religious reasons, but just because it's so beautiful and peaceful.
A little blurry. A week or so later, taking advantage of the crazy exchange rate, I'd buy my first image-stabiliser lens, for what was effectively half the UK price... looking forward to the results from that :)
