The most photographed man

Poor Warren became quite an object of fun at the Cotton Club. Several gaggles of young ladies were hanging around him taking pictures of themselves with – and on – him. You can imagine the hilarity. "Look, it's us with the passed-out drunk!" I feel like less of a user since he's actually my friend. A user nevertheless. But I did get him safely home, which kinda makes up for it. ;) ( Click here to view on black )

Disposable motor

Taken by Toby – with whom it was wonderful to catch up – just before he's off again. I'd just taken the pic of him with the first vehicle he'd ever driven on a motorway, so he decided we should complete the set of "boys and their vehicles" pictures! Not one of my usual older-than-me cars, but it's been an interesting experiment. This is my second "disposable car". It cost me £200, has cost little more since (although I invested in a brake caliper and a new set of nice wheels and tyres, which keep it straight, literally - it used to have three different sizes!) — and for that, it's been with me, almost trouble-free, since February 2006! And the disposable part? Well, when it finally gives up and becomes uneconomic to repair, it's no great financial hit. But actually I'm really into keeping old cars alive, since (a) they're nostalgic — not that this one is old enough to be so. But also (b) because it saves the energy which goes into producing new ones or even recycling the old components. There's also the fact that at such low purchase prices, it's ultra-cheap motoring, if you choose well and are a little bit lucky. This (diesel) car is so economical I can get from Edinburgh to London at high speed for £40, even with passengers and luggage. And that's after it's done 180,000 miles. It's basically the same engine as my Landie (which I don't drive on the road in the UK) but in an aerodynamic, lighter body. It's even got Recaros! ;)

"Eek!" about sums it up. Was wonderful to see Tobes just before he jets (!) off to live at Dancing Rabbit with his new family. :) He took one of me , too. (This links up nicely with the time when I left Brighton – after many years – and Toby was my send-off party: here .)

Emma at Glastonbury

My favourite Aberdeen minibus. We had about twenty, because obviously Aberdeen is a million miles from anywhere, so conferences, meetings, demos, and sports things often required us to hit the road. But M229 – Emma – was by far the best to drive, and became my minibus of choice :) (Photo uploaded for a discussion in the Guess Where Aberdeen flickr group.)

Landie (and ancestor)

Just a nice little village square. It was pretty quiet, and we sat outside the little café and took in village life for a while — unwinding with one of our last stops on our way home.

Well, he's a Dutchman

A somehow slightly strange scene. I'd stopped to take a picture of the windmill and the donkey when the man rushed out. I thought perhaps he was offended at the photo, but no: he proceeded to bring out his pigs and get them and the donkey closer so we could see them. Thanks, mister! We didn't actually exchange any meaningful words, even though it's so easy for Dutch and English speakers to make sense of each other. We just waved our cameras at him, and he waved his animals at us.

Just bizarre
