I have no idea what this is!

It's made of very well turned and polished wood, about 2 inches (5cm) tall and very tactile. I can't think of any practical purpose for it, but it's very nice to look at. My wife found it whilst clearing about a box of bits and bobs but neither of us can remember where it came from :-)

Diane Putnam, Gudrun, Diana Australis, Rosalyn Hilborne and 11 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thanks Diana.............but that has already been ruled out :-)) It is lovely though and I'm pleased you like it.

My first thought also was a darning help but the point is a bit sharp. Whatever it is, it's beautifully turned and you photographed it perfectly with a matching background.

Thanks for joining in the speculation Gudrun and I'm glad you like the photo. I suspect it's probably just a display piece made by a wood-turner!

Game piece? Finial? Miniature lamp? I agree, to pointy for a darning bulb. You've gotten it to pose very nicely, Keith! ;-)
