In Memory of a Brave Man

This crucifix is affixed to the outside wall of St Peter's Church, in Petersfield, Hampshire in memory of Commander Loftus William Jones RN VC. His last command in WW1 was HMS SHARK.
His Victoria Cross was awarded posthumously - the citation can be read here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loftus_Jones
For anyone who doesn't know, the VC is the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
Not my normal choice of photographic subject - but I had to do something while my wife was shopping and I enjoyed tracking down the story behind it.

Also, I'm coming by to give you a great big virtual HUGGGGG!!! The comments you left about my France pictures have me glowing with a happy, content smile on my face. I am a bit shy about my France pictures because they are so completely different than my usual fare and I worry that people may think they are really horrible "Whatever was she thinking other than the Delete key?" :D I know I shouldn't be that harsh but you know what I mean about posting something that's not a "Standard Favorite". When you tell me how much you like these unusual pictures, it gives me such a sense of joy and that I'm not just trying to convince myself that they are valid and worthy. I really respect your viewpoints and your experience so I just wanted to say thank you! *peck on the cheek*
Have a nice weekend
