Lazy Saturday morning

Lazy Saturday morning
It was quiet outside the dining-room window: there didn't seem to be any little birds about, making their usual noise. Then I saw this fellow on the fence. He was just hanging around, quietly scanning his surroundings. And, suddenly, he fell forward and disappeared, probably chasing one of those little birds. Or perhaps the squirrel that had been here until a few days ago.

Our squirrels are the little red ones, not the big grey ones found in some other places in North America. This hawk would have little trouble catching and killing one. These hawks are known to catch "pigeons" (rock doves) which are about ten times the mass of the squirrels!

Great news. I expect you'll see many birds you otherwise don't see in the city.
