Sharpie's pitch

27 Nov 2022 10 12 122
After a hard night of wind and cold rain, Sharpie makes her appearance at the back door. "Excuse me, sir. Sorry for interrupting your breakfast. You wouldn't happen to have any little birdies you wouldn't be needing? Fine little birdies. Heh."

Hawk looking for lunch

Two days in a row we have seen this fellow hanging around. When I caught sight of him today, he was chasing a junco -- the junco outflew him, and got away. The hawk took to this spot on our fence for ten minutes, constantly looking around for new prey . . . and new threats. The latter came first and a crow chased him away.

Siskin for lunch

This was yesterday in my backyard. Hawk - 1; siskin - 0. I doubt the score could have been otherwise.

Lazy Saturday morning

It was quiet outside the dining-room window: there didn't seem to be any little birds about, making their usual noise. Then I saw this fellow on the fence. He was just hanging around, quietly scanning his surroundings. And, suddenly, he fell forward and disappeared, probably chasing one of those little birds. Or perhaps the squirrel that had been here until a few days ago.

Sharpie's lunch

I'd been watching the various winter finches and sparrows at the feeder when this guy, who has been hanging around for several days, found his lunch in a junco. While I watched, he kept looking up at me, But, until he dropped this last bit of meat on my side of the railing, he was content to keep picking.
