Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto

Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto
It's almost winter so here's a winter photo, taken in 2015 and cropped since its first appearance here back then. When I lived in Toronto (which now seems like a century ago even though it's only been three years) the skating rink at Nathan Phillips Sqare was one of those places where everyone was happy -- the tourists trying skating for the first time, the families skating together, the speed demons whizzing around the outside, the young figure skaters practising their chops. And some going the wrong way, like buddy in the orange tuque; there's always someone, eh? But Jan Morris provided a much better description of activity at the rink in Among the Cities so you'd probably be better off reading that.

[Sarah Paris has suggested that the backwards fellow may be taking a photo, which seems highly likely to me. Thanks, Sarah.]

Thanks, Roger. Apart from the exertion, you also get more sensitive to cold as you age, so cutting down at least ips advisable.

Thanks, Annemarie. I shot this through one of the Os in a big sign that spells out Toronto (just in case you've forgotten where you are).

Thanks, Keith. As I mentioned to Annemarie the frame is an O in the Toronto sign. And as I mentioned to Steve the irrepressible human jumble that is Toronto is something I miss.

Thanks, Sarah. The frame is an O in the Toronto sign. I think you may be right about buddy in the orange hat. He also could just be standing. Will check more closely when I get back on the computer; on my cheap phone at the moment, on which doing that would take about three times as long.
