I don't play trumpet, dC, although I have "played" this one. Some friends and I have had a garage band for 40 years, and we did our own version of "Bags' Groove" on which I played this. Our lineup is usually a keyboard and three guitars, so we needed some variety. My tone wasn't that much worse than with some Miles Davis recordings. I'm not mocking Miles Davis - he restored melody to jazz, and his recording of "So What?" is one of my favourites, but sometimes his tone was, oh, less brilliant than the other trumpeters' back in the 50s. Of course, that may have been a valid artistic choice on his part. My tone just comes from incompetence.
