My silly question is simply : what the heck it is ?

It's a traffic cone. Léopold. This is a little piece of ground that was being worked on till the ground froze. The cone was supposed to be a warning but fell over.

Work is supposed to resume soon.

That's was I thought it was but I like to keep members busy with my silly question John.

Very well observed John............I too like the shadows on the cone - they make it look like one of the collapsible versions.

Thanks, Keith. The shadows are what caught my eye. In retrospect I maybe could have done with a little less contrast, but the contrast here seemed like a good idea at the time.

I get that “ walking by and finally something happened “ feeling sometimes and take a picture, but find it hard to trust my instinct. This opens up some possibilities.

I've spent most of my life doing analytical work, Steve, and was trained to trust my unconscious, which turned out to be good training. Not only do you often get good insights into your work, but you learn things like how to look at data.

In photography I've found that unconscious inspiration increases with familiarity. The more often I walk down a specific street the more photos just pop out at me. Often they don't work out, but taking them does produce a few good ones.

At the track I was occasionally drawn to the windows by a mysterious force to make exotic bets. Now those paid off. Then milkshaking was introduced and the races became unpredictable. Sigh.

There's a dynamic here between the elements that is hard to put into words. Feels like the aftermath of a drama between non-humans, so we can't explain what happened.

An interesting observation, Sarah. I think the non-verbal aspect of photography (and painting and sculpture and architecture is nowadays almost entirely neglected, and it's good to know how people feel about a photo, so thanks for letting me know your feeling. People inspired by John Berger treat photos as if they were text. Feh, I say.
