We do have floods, fires, and earthquakes (and snow in the mountains), not too mention a lot of fog (in San Francisco.) But no polar vortexes, and as for high winds, they are not exactly hurricane strength. "Occasionally gusts over 40 mph" is mostly a danger to umbrellas.
Glad the young ladies in Toronto are kind enough to assist fallen gentlemen. Canadians in general appear so much more courteous than their Yankee neighbors.

In winter you have to take care of each other, Sarah. People have speculated that one of the reasons Canadians get along with each other is that they have a common enemy.

Wind is a problem in the Great Lakes, of course. Chicago isn't the only Windy City.
