I suspect "Après le bain" also served in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a way of legitimating paintings of nude women.

I've never been to St. Ives, but the images I googled and the trip I took through it on Google Street View showed me what you meant. Is it really as sunny there as the photos suggest?
