Die Römer errichteten im 1. Jahrhundert ein Theater in Orange, einem Ort in der französischen Provence. Das Theater bot damals schon über 7000 Personen Platz. Die Römer verstanden es durch die bogenartige Bauweise der Sitzplätze die Akkustik so ausunutzen, dass auch ohne Mikrofon und Verstärker alle Besucher etwas hören konnten.
