La Symphonie no 6 en la mineur « tragique » de Gustav Mahler fut composée entre 1903 et 1904.
L'andante que vous écoutez apporte un répit par rapport à l'intensité du reste de l’œuvre. Son thème principal est une phrase introspective de dix mesures en Mi♭ majeur, bien qu'il aborde fréquemment le mode mineur. L'orchestration est plus délicate et réservée dans ce mouvement, ce qui le rend d'autant plus poignant que les trois autres.
Elle imprègne de sa profonde mélancolie ma composition d'un soir d'été, pourtant serein et indemne de tout tracas quotidien...

The andante you are listening to provides a respite from the intensity of the rest of the work. Its main theme is an introspective ten-bar phrase in E♭ major, though it frequently touches on the minor mode as well. The orchestration is more delicate and reserved in this movement, making it all the more poignant when compared to the other three.
It permeates with its deep melancholy my composition on a summer evening, yet serene and unharmed by any daily worries....
