[FR] Occupant une position centrale dans l'île, Corte est la capitale historique et culturelle de la Corse. La « cité paoline » fut en effet choisie par Pascal Paoli comme capitale de la Corse indépendante (entre 1755 et 1769). Sa citadelle du XVIIIe siècle, construite autour d'un château du XVe siècle, abrite depuis 1997 le musée de la Corse. La ville est le siège de l'université de Corse Pascal-Paoli (XVIIIe siècle, édifiée à l'initiative de ce dernier) qui accueille environ 4 000 étudiants.

[EN] Corte is the historical and cultural capital of Corsica and is centrally located on the island. The "paoline city" was indeed chosen by Pascal Paoli as the capital of independent Corsica (between 1755 and 1769). Its 18th century citadel, built around a 15th century castle, has housed the Museum of Corsica since 1997. The city is the seat of the University of Corsica Pascal-Paoli (18th century, built on the initiative of the latter) welcoming about 4,000 students.
