Son thème principal est une phrase introspective de dix mesures en Mi♭ majeur, bien qu'il aborde fréquemment le mode mineur. L'orchestration est plus délicate et réservée dans ce mouvement, ce qui le rend d'autant plus poignant que les trois autres. Elle imprègne de sa profonde mélancolie ma composition d'un soir d'été, pourtant serein et indemne de tout tracas quotidien...
