Dunstaffnage Castle courtyard and gatehouse

Dunstaffnage Castle near Oban, Scotland, dates back to the 13th century. It is built on a small peninsula with the Firth of Lorne to the west and Loch Etive to the east and north.
This is a view northwards from the southern parapet, overlooking the central courtyard. The gatehouse is on the right; the gravelled area in the centre with the seat marks the remains of the Great Hall. At the lower left is the well, with its four pillars and protective grille.
