Graylag Goose: She has built her nest quiet close to the trail and does not seem to bothered by people passing by as they walk around the lake. She was standing next to the nest when I arrived and I counted 9 eggs before she returned to the nest. The Gander was nowhere to be seen.

A beautiful well camouflaged mother, HappySnapper. I wonder if the nest was build before the measures were relaxed and fewer people were around. Now she has 9 eggs that depend on her and has to put up with the "traffic" ...

Thanks for the visit Rosalyn, I don't really know what the survival rate for a family of Graylags is, I suspect about 50% of the brood make it, some don't hatch, some are lost to predators and others just not strong enough. Graylags are semi tame and social they often mix with other families of geese. About 146.000 breeding pairs in the UK, if all the brood survived I think we would have a problem.
