Kolbeinn Erlendsson’s coach R 364 seen in the Sprengisandur region of the remote central highlands of Iceland. The track is the F26 road! - 24 July 2002 (492-26)

Kolbeinn Erlendsson, based in a hamlet near Bólstaðarhlið about 21km (13 miles) east of Varmahlið, operated this rugged Mercedes-Benz coach set on a truck based chassis to negotiate the rough terrain encountered on tours through the Icelandic highlands. R 364 is seen here alongside the track that is the F26 road across Sprengisandur, a 250 km north-south route passable by four wheel drive vehicles during the short summer months. The coach had originally been operated by Guðmundur Jónasson Travel in whose distinctive livery it remained.
