The Saint Jean postern-gate. HBM

Access to the city was through two large gates. This 15th-century postern was built into the northern ramparts to link the town to the suburbs and the road that separated them.

LA POTERNE SAINT-JEAN. On accédait à la cité en passant par deux grandes portes. Cette poterne du XVe siècle est aménagée dans le rempart nord afin de relier la ville aux faubourgs et à la route qui les sépare.

DIE AUSFALLPFORTE SAINT-JEAN. Der Zugang zur Stadt erfolgte durch zwei grosse Tore. Diese Pforte aus dem 15. Jh. wurde in die nördliche Stadtmauer eingebaut, um die Stadt mit den Vororten und der Strasse, die sie trennte, zu verbinden.

Es sieht nur so klein aus da weiter entfernt : eine lange Treppe führt durch die Pforte unten auf den Weg, auf dem Foto ist das nicht sehr deutlich.
